v1.1

Keeping a devlog for any major post-launch updates. Trying to be professional about this.

Version 1.1 update is largely bug fixes

  • Miscellaneous typos have been corrected
  • "_vibeSymbol" no longer shows up during karaoke if the hint system is turned off
  • Horse experience no longer throws an error when selecting eternity options during Bari's second and third bond events.

Would like to comment on this. H O R S (?) went through a few hours of heavy bugtesting and spellchecking before publishing, and several bugs were caught during that final critical period. However, the last week of development was, perhaps, a bit rushed, and in better circumstances, perhaps I would have given it a few more days. Perhaps.

When I started this project in January, I set the end of the year as the deadline, and until very recently, I didn't think I'd hit it. This year has...not been a good one for productivity for several reasons. Work on this project came in bursts, catching lightning in a bottle and trying to keep it long enough to get a few hundred more words done. Last week was my last real week to work on it; next week I'm off to see family.  So at some point I looked at what was left, looked at the time I had and went 'we can  hit it. It'll take all we've got but we can hit that target'. And we hit it; and it did take everything we had. So instead of doing one last quality check, we published this at 10 PM on a Friday night and then refused to touch the damn thing for days because I'd burned myself out entirely.

There's always that tension. The longer you keep something from the public, the more you can polish it, the more you can rework it, the closer you can get it to perfect. But at some point, you have to show something. If not for the joy of completion, if not for the stroking of one's own ego, then to allow it to serve its purpose, to do what it was meant to do. H O R S (?) was meant to tell a story, to show off characters and what makes them tick, albeit through often confusing and byzantine methods  that are probably more trouble than they're worth. I've worked to get it to the point where it can do that, and I'll keep working to push it further as long as I'm willing and able.

This was, perhaps, a bit much. In short, the bugs should be fixed, and there might be room for non-bugfix updates in the future. We'll see.
